Splashing the Green Witch

Awlgrip-ed hull not fully hard, reflects unbelievable gloss.

Hull bottom, before antifouling. Four coats of Interlux 3000/3001,  faired with less than 2 quarts of Watertite epoxy filler, mainly on the topside, and hull cross seams (my very first welds). The Interlux 3000/3001 is over coated with 4 coats of Interlux 2000/2001.

Later a  final coat of Interlux 2000/2001 over sanded washed fully cured primer, and three coats of white, Interlux Trilux II copper-thiocyanate covered my antifouling needs. The Trilux II, though it is an excellent product, is a compromise I am entirely not happy with.  I would have prefered no copper (or tin or zinc for that matter), for ecological reasons. I'ts hard to imagine but having worked in at West Marine, and humped pallets of bottom paint to the sales floor, I have and accute sense of how much nasty crap ends up in Lake Otario.

Unfortunately my first choice, Veridian silicone foul release paint is apparently no longer available in the US (not that it was ever affordable). Perhaps there will be better products available in a couple of seasons.

Easing into the water for the first time and floating to her lines.

Stepping the spar for the first time. The rigging is still to be cut to length

Later in the day, having started on fitting the boom - which I raised 4-5" to clear my head and that is now 4" too long........... Oooops. Those last minute design changes. Catch me every time. It's a triangle to state the obvious - raise the boom and it needs to get shorter, or it's on the backstay. Fortunately it's only an issue if I scandalize the main, so for now I will do nothing.

Sailomat bolted on the transom

Trying out the used C&C mainsail. A couple of feet short in the hoist and a lot short on the boom. Pity it's a nice sail.

The marina at Great Lakes Sodus Bay. The old grain elevators in the background house a marine conservation group.

Bow from the dock. The Green Witch is floating an inch above her design waterline, with everything aboard, including 275 ft of 5/16" HT chain. Aft, I had got the last two chine's of WL slightly high, after guessing. somewhat. The extra inch is nothing to worry about. Despite over 200 pounds of stuff in the aft lazarette I can find no evidence of transom squat.
