Whether at a yard
or your slip, when you employ technicians to work on your boat it's
important and reasonable, to politely ask a few questions up
front.
Firstly, is the person doing the work experienced and
appropriately qualified. A diesel mechanic might be a manufacturer
certified Master Technician for several brands. An electronics
installer might have a NMEA or
ABYC
certification. A qualified surveyor would be a member of
NAMS or SAMS. Secondly does the company or individual carry "Ship Repairer
Legal Liability". Potentially, we can all mess up from time to
time. I will always try to make good an error or omission on my part.
There are times when disaster strikes. Insurance helps take care of a
major oops. Insist on it. I carry "Ship Repairer Legal
Liability". Verification a phone
call away.
Most
of the work I undertake is along the Multnomah channel,
including, Saint Helens, and Scappoose, through to Portland on the
Willamette river, and Hayden Island and Marine Drive along the
Columbia River.
